ySWEET AUTUMN CLEMATISz
(Botanical name: Clematis terniflora)
The SENNINSOH, or Sweet Autumn Clematis, belongs to the buttercup
family and ranges throughout most of Japan. It is a lianoid perrenial herb and
its flowers become conspicuous much earlier here in Amami than in more
northern parts of Japan. During the rainy season starting early May, the vines
climb up other trees, densely blossoming white small flowers, which forms a striking contrast
against an overcast sky of the moist season.
The YAMBARU-SENNINSOH,
or Clematis mayeniana, ranges on Tanegashima, Yakushima and southward. The two
species resemble each other very closely. Since I am not able to distinguish
between the two well, the pictures shown here are not identified which is
which.
