In early July, when the rainy season is over,
Golden Showers start blooming. The yellow flowers like golden rain shine against
the summer sky. This species, which is native to India and belongs to the pea
family, grows as tall as 10 meters. The flowers that hang from the branches in
clusters really live up to the name "Golden Shower".
Since you can grow this tree through seedling,
cutting and layering, it has become pretty popular as a garden tree these days.
Seed pods about 30 centemeters long also hang from the branches.
But you had better not break them carelessly because black mucus like
coal tar can stain your hands or clothes.
Some trees still bloom even in
August.
